You were careless enough to allow your wife to get her hands on the leatherman tool
The tool was in the glove box of the car. She was dropping the car off at the dealers for a service, repair or something and took the tool out of the car in case some light-fingered kid at the garage nicked it. Ironic eh? ;0)
Not such an irrational worry, I've had stuff go missing from cars before and I know other people who have too. I've even lost parts of the car!
I had a MkII Astra years ago and when it came out of the garage one of the plastic clips holding the sun visor up was missing. There's no way it just fell off, it screwed on firmly and was not inside the car. One of the apprentices at the garage had a MkII Astra and I'm quite sure he nicked it. Not an expensive part but annoying as I had to go to the dealer and order it. I also lost the reversing switch from the gearbox once!
Girl at work is in depute with the local Renault dealer over her car. Trading Standards and her finance company are now fighting them as she wants to reject it, the thing has suffered total electrical failure five times in less than a year. She put all the AA recovery receipts in the glove box. When the car came back from the Renault dealer they were gone and the dealer denied all knowledge!
