Picture size

My vertically oriented pictures used to fill the frame. Now they use maybe 5/8 of the horizontal distance available. What changed? Is there a way around this?

I think that there's a max display height of 900px, so that prevents portrait-orientation photos from filling up the width - or at least that's what I've found for years... they've never taken up the full width for my photos, at least viewing on desktop.
