I
CAN be a bit of a purist about food, but I am also a glutton with a huge appetite for cheap carbohydrates
On my first ever trip to Italy (a sad tale of unrequited love, to be told another time)... I was very much looking forward to sampling an 'authentic' Italian pizza, and I paid through the nose for a basic tom/cheese jobby, cooked before my eyes in a lovely looking pizza oven, by a 'can't look more Italian if you tried' chef. I had a glass of red with it, and believe me, this little lot cost an absolute packet, and was all I could afford.... basic pizza and a glass of red.
I was SOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed, and I left still hungry, and hankering for a stuffed crust/thick-based/pineapple-sporting frozen supermarket pizza, side-order of chips and mayo, and a bottle of cheapo plonk to wash it down with.
