The big money paid out by the top clubs is all from the pockets of their foreign owners, all the better for the treasury (and the rest of us) as they collect tax from it.

There's no way Carroll is worth that money, around £15m would be the going rate normally. However as a LFC fan I think £50m for Torres was a reasonable coup for someone off top form and not wanting to play fully committed. The Torres money should have been used for two or three good players instead of the usual average performers we seem to attract.

Liverpool are seriously off the pace. It is Manchester United and Arsenal and however many UEFA allow us in the CL. Fortunately for both it is four at the moment.
