There's the story that at the last public guillotining in France (1930s) several spectators took home movies. Some of these films are still extant and have even found their way onto Youtube (since removed). I watched one of them but it's very blurred and not too gory!

Once the French authorities learned of the filming, they hurriedly moved all subsequent guillotinings indoors and away from public gaze.

Must be a week for it. We couldn't get to one of our recycling streets on Tuesday because of a man threatening to jump from a roof. Alas, he did, and died.

shame but hopefully he was an organ donor to make up for the recycling?
