This is quite appalling, yet I can't supress a giggle at how daft the poor animal looks...

Thirty something years ago my girlfriend at the time turned up with her newly acquired young sheltie. We negotiated for it to be left at my house to be supervised by my mother while we went off boozing as it my girlfriend didn't want the dog to be left alone at her house as her parents were away.

When we returned five or six hours later, my mother looked a bit flustered and the sheltie appeared to have put on a lot of weight and it wasn't a beer fuelled illusion. The dog had definitely gained in girth and height.

It turned out that one of my younger brothers had struck up a friendship with the dog and the dog trusted him enough to allow him to pour a can of magnolia emulsion over it.

My mother had several anxious hours of washing, rinsing and blow drying (hence the growth in volume) the unfortunate pooch. The back yard was covered in magnolia paw and footprints.

The dog was unperturbed by the incident and was totally magnolia free.

My relationship didn't survive more than a couple of weeks after the puffed up painted pooch palaver.

Norma - if you are reading this - I am sorry even though I found it hysterically funny at the time.

My mate once dyed her cat pink. She was dying her own hair pink when the cat came into the bathroom and tried to jump up onto the toilet seat where the dye and bits and bobs were. My mate grabbed her with pink hands, and decided that just a handprint looked stupid, so she did the whole cat.

My hairdresser once drew some cherries onto her dog in hair dye as well. It looked brilliant, like a little doggy tattoo.

Frankly of all the things you could do to a cat, colouring it pink is very low on the horror scale. The colour isn't poisonous and whoever did it was careful to keep clear of the eyes and mouth. Really there seems to be little harm done.

I don't like cats, I regard them as machines to crap in my garden and kill birds, but whoever did this is no cat hater. Now, if they'd dumped it into a bin...!

Hopefully the cat wasn't harmed and the dye isn't harmful either. It seems to be none the worse though.

I would happily adopt it but I'd also be very tempted to keep it pink too.

Are the RSPCA sure it is dye and the cat hasn't just turned pink from eating too many prawns, like flamingos?

This actually makes me wonder....

Someone harmlessly dyes a cat pink, and we are up in arms, yet we have for years bred dogs to the stage where they cannot breathe or see properly and are condemned to a life of pain with congenital problems with hips.

Yet this is acceptable and celebrated?
