I am just curious to know, if you could live anywhere in England, where would you live and for what reasons. While you are at it, where would you hate to live and why. Not necessarily for cycling reasons, I just would like to know where people consider great places to live.

I'm an East Anglian girl and rather like the flatlands, that are not totally flat but gently rolling. I know that I now live in the South West but that's probably not where my heart lies. I like the sea, the broads, the rolling roads and the pace of life.

I would hate to live in London, Birmingham or Manchester - any big city come to that - because there is just too much hustle and bustle for me.

I was brought up in Lancashire, but family moved to Kent when I was 19. I like both places, but you lose all your old friends and places when you do move. Even now after 45 years, I still miss some of the old places in Lancashire, but I've established new friends in Kent, so would never go back.

Not the metropolises ever again for sure. Hate London, never going back.
You can talk to people here in Gloucester and surrounds and they don't think you're barking mad. It's an odd and oft mentioned truism that there is a point at which you are surrounded by so many people, yet so alone. So anywhere not too far for convenience, but not so crowded as to be isolating.

I wan't to live in Scotland. I don't know why but I just do. Must be some ancestral yearning. The hills would be nice too, and I could afford a nice house.
I live in Berkshire and it is expensive and busy. I grew up on the south (saaaaaaaaffffff) coast.

I'd like to live somewhere near where I just went on holiday. I went to Ashbourne which was lovely but I wouldn't want to live in Ashbourne itself but maybe somewhere around that area. Possibly a bit more north, going into the peak district or possibly going more towards the Derbyshire Dales. Definitely don't want to be living in Weston-super-Mare for my whole life.

Lot of love for Derbyshire going on......

Probably one of those nice seaside villages in Dorset/S Devon. Good weather, nice scenery, within reach of some larger town. When you've lived in Glossop you do come to appreciate how much better the weather is in the South

This isn't just sanctimonious whining. If I could go back, I would, in a heartbeat. However, I have to consider other people.

Why would I want to go back? The place "crackles" in a way I've never experienced anywhere else. It's a really difficult feeling to put across, because it's so visceral. Anyone who's lived there for any period of time, however, will know what I mean.
