Places to visit in france/italy tour?

Hi guys,

in july i am embarking on a month long tour from england to italy.
I want to go at a nice adn steady touring pace and hit 50-60 miles a day.

I am getting the ferry from portsmouth to caen and would like some ideas / routes / places to visit, to help make my ride a little more interesting

So far the only thing of note that i am to visit and climb is Alpe d'huez.

So any tips welcome

The American cemetary at Colville is a definate must see. Mont St Michel is a good photo opportunity.

Then it depends which wayvyou want to go.
