I was a bit short of time this morning so I just went out for a cheeky 15 miler to get the legs moving. So, about 10 minutes in I'm approaching a junction and checked behind to see a roadie sucking my back wheel. I made the turn, looked back and he's there, so I waited for a couple of cars to pass, sat up and turned round to say 'morning' and he'd gone, strange I thought.
Then a bit later I was rolling along and came up to a parked car, glanced back before passing, and ten yards behind was a young stud on a flat bar. OK I thought, he must be going faster than me because he wasn't there a while back, so I waited for him to breeze past... I waited, looked back, nothing, WTF? I'm sure there were no side turns.
Finally a couple of miles from home I stopped at some temporary traffic lights for some roadworks. There's the sound of brake blocks, I look back and there's another roadie coasting up. Before I could acknowledge him the light changed and we were off. So I negotiated the cones, waited for the queued traffic to pass and looked back. NOTHING!

What's going on?.... Will you all please stop playing hide and seek with me, it's not funny.

Having them disappear is not so bad as having them stop dead in front of you like happened to me today when this fellow decided to suddenly stop to adjust his earphones, at a pinch point on the path.
Just as well my brakes work.
Is there something about the first Sunday in March and helmets? Few winter cyclists wear helmets in my area, but today saw a sudden increase in the percentage of helmet wearers.

whilst we were out on tandem this afternoon we had a roadie behind and then past us , i reckon he was taking a breather in our slipstream to save his energy for the burst past us , was going to give chase but i didnt want to embarass him !!!!!
