I'd suggest that you use cyclestreets.net to plan a journey you'd feel safe with. Either way you'll be best crossing the marshes using the cycle paths rather than the busy A roads.

H''m. It says "cycling on the Greenway is not permitted .. footpath" .. Well, cycling IS permitted along the whole length of the Greenway from Becton to Old Ford, with the exception of a few hundred yards north of Stratford High Street, which is currently closed to all users.

It says that for only one short section, the rest is marked as Unsegregated Shared Use which isn't true for the part from Victoria Park to the Greenwich Meridian. The concrete side (east) is supposed to be for cyclist and the tarmac half for pedestrians.
