I decided to sand the forks down to get rid of the bmc branding.

How they started out

Ran out of 200 grit paper so threw the forks back on until tomorrow.

Looks so much better already. Just need to finish the other leg, wet sand and lacquer.

I have removed the bmc red detailing from the forks and a couple of the wheel stickers.

Funny thing triples...

...they often provoke negative reactions due the extra ring but then along comes Shimano/SRAM/The Italian Mob and they slap yet another unnecessary cog on the already crammed full rear cassette and hey - people go gaga with delight! Funny world!

Surely anybody can see having additional usable gears is an advantage as it helps make smaller incremental gear changes but having a 3rd chain ring for road usage is largely pointless as we just don't have the hills in this country to require that low a gear.

Oh and the forks look a lot better now. I like looking at Planet X bikes as I keep thinking of getting one as a winter bike or one of their TT frames.

Just because where you live a mountain is any hill over 10' high doesn't mean that there are parts of this country where there aren't hills that may well require a 3rd chainring. :laugh:

Maybe the uber-fit can get up all the hills where I live on a regular or compact double but I'd wager that an awful lot of riders would need a triple to get up them.

Even taking the obvious major passes (Wrynose etc) out of the equation that many people could ride up only in their dreams it still leaves a lot of nasty long (and not so long) winding ascents where mere mortals will be down to 2-3mph using a triple let alone a double no question about it.

Thanks for all of the positive comments. I suck at hills....but it is an area im working on and hopefully soon I can ditch the triple for a double and maybe a bigger cog at the back in case of emergency. ...

come to south wales we'll show you some hills were a triple is needed, especially if your over 15+stone in weight

i completed the iron mountain climb today which is 7.2km and over 440mtrs of climbing, loved my lowest gear 30/30 on my sabbath, also puts less strain on the legs and knees to just slowly spin up the hills, than grinding a bigger gear.
