Planning / booking on French railways

Planning on a two week tour in the summer and need to plan / book rail travel from Caen to the upper Loire Valley and options for coming back from further south. Any recommendations for websites and info.?

The best for route planning in France, perversely, is the German railways site - Deutsche Bahn - you can ask it to restrict searches to trains that take bikes, unlike on the SNCF site - SNCF - where you can at least book tickets. As I understand it, you don't need to/can't book bike spaces on local trains, but do need to on TGVs (and not all allow them unfolded/packed anyway).

That is a truly useful website! It's just confirmed I can't get my husband from Avignon to Aix en Provence with his velo par le train!!
