Planning my first 100-mile ride

I've been promising myself I'd have a bash at this sometime, and Aug 9th is going to be when the sometime arrives ...

My longest day's ride to date has been 77 miles. (Actually, I did do a 90-mile day one time, but that doesn't really count as it was (a) totally flat and ( exceedingly slow, parts of it at walking-pace.)

I'm assured that if you can cycle 70+ miles in a day, you can do 100 if you take it easy. Any other tips?

Eat regularly and stay hydrated.

You'll cope ok.

Thanks. I have a Camelbak, and use ORT sachets in it, and I'm planning stops roughly every 20 miles. Eating regularly in moderation seems to work well for me.

Eat something (e.g. chunk of malt loaf/fruit cake) every 10 miles. Drink an energy drink at least 500-700ml per hour/hour and a quarter. Worked for me.

I have a 1-litre Camelbak, and typically get through that in around 20 miles. It's not an energy drink, but I mix ORT powders into the water, so it at least replenishes the salts and sugars lost by sweating.

I tend to eat every 20 miles, but might eat a banana[1] or Mars Bar while riding.

[1] I'm religious about bananas when cycling. I used to get cramp, but haven't suffered it once since eating a banana before a ride and another during it

PS I've done a century previously but wouldn't mind another one in company!

That's a Sunday Ben. All the best maiden centuries are done in the company of a mouseketeer! Unfortunate that you couldn't have tagged onto the FNRttC heading towards Bognor, scoffed a fry up and returned at military medium towards London...getting a train or continuing along for as great a distance as you felt was possible.
I think it helps to have company FWIW.

I will make one of those sometime, they've just always managed to be on dates I can't make so far (or, rather, at my age I know I'd be dead on the Saturday, so they require a free-ish weekend).

Hmmm -I think I'm going to ride to Hertfordshire for a birthday piss up conviviality on the Sunday...but your ride starts at 08:00...and I have access to the GPS. And if I actually make it out of Bognor (I have friends there who are wont to ply me with Guinness at dawn..) No promises Ben but it would be nice to see your peloton in full flow.

If totally flat rides don't count, then I've only ever done 1 ton ride
