Night Train

Maker of Things
Would like to be out on a walk with new gf but she has house guests so I will be making yet more props for the theatre. It will be raining so still no further with the scaffolding.

I will probably also be cleaning the house as new gf will be coming over on Monday to join me at rehearsals.

no cycling for me ;)...I'm off to glasgow tomorrow cos I'm running a workshop there next week. The good part is that it involves a trip to the isle of jura, so I'm going to get the stocks of single malt up again. Tomorrow night I'm going to a gig in stirling on my own. I'm going to love the gig but not over enamoured at going on my tod. Oh well...

it's going to be the newly created and humungously attractive looking mountain bike track from Thursden valley to the Pennine Bridleway at Widdop on Saturday...
I saw them building that a month or so back and made a mental note to ride it when I've finally made enough money to get my MTB serviced!

Here's a picture of the helicopter taking stone up there:

And this picture shows the new bridleway behind the white landrover (and the killer road climb towards Widdop):

... and a long, hilly road ride on Sunday. Why, what's it to you? EH!!!;)
Is that the Brian Robinson Challenge Paul? I can't remember whether you said you were doing it. I'm cycling to Greetland and then getting a lift to Huddersfield for it, and will get dropped off just before the M62 afterwards and ride home from there so I should get a hilly century in. I'll ride round the block a few times if I have to to make up the distance.

What a disappointment that was! The track from near my house to the beginning of the steep climb (bottom of hill to Hebden Bridge) has been totally ruined. It was a superb fell-running/rough cross-country surface with dips and climbs previously but not any more! They seem to have "flattened" it out with tons and tons of stones where the dips used to be and the surface looks totally false and un-natural. It was alright to ride on but will be very uncomfortable to run on. It also looks an eye-sore from the road. The steep climb which looked good is very steep indeed and the loose surface does nothing to instill confidence in it providing any grip. Despite weeks of dry weather (the reservoirs are less than half full), it rained heavily at one point which made the steep climb even more treacherous and I have to say I didn't enjoy it at all despite looking forward to it for ages. The only consolation I took was from the signs indicating work was still going on so hopefully something will be put on the surface to "bind" it but it's not a ride I'll be going out of my way to be doing any time soon!

As for the Brian Robinson, no, I'll not be doing that. I've been invited on a ride with a group of lads I used to run with and we're going on part of the route we did last week at the SITD, out around Bolton Abbey and Appletreewick but then going up around Arncliffe to Halton Gill and on to Settle then home. Good luck on your 100.

No ride today as I was finishing off lining the interior of my now camper van. Was at it all day, so depending on weather tomorrow, may go for a ride late on,,,

Hey bonj - did your chain fall off just after the traffic lights at the start? Someone resembling you was fiddling about with his bike at the side of the road as I rode past in a big bunch of riders. If it was you, why not invest in a Deda Dog Fang?

I've fitted one to my Basso, and I think I'll buy one for my Cannondale too (though I never had a big problem with dropping the chain on that bike, unlike the Basso).

Once your chain was back on, how did the rest of your ride go?

yes it was me  grr
it behaved flawlessly for the rest of the ride.
But I might consider one of those devices...looks fairly unintrusive but if it serves the pupose...
