I bashed my plastic and got a set of Ay-Ups for the darkening mornings and for the winter commutes. My treat to myself for being cooped up indoors at home for my two weeks of holiday because the rain has been teeming down.

I used to think my Electron 5 + 10w lights were small and bright, but WOW !! The AyUps are even tinier and shine like the sun. Plus the battery's tiny, featherlight and has a 6hr run-time.

I think any budding cycle-commuting videographer needs a set of these to light the scenes properly. Get your plastic out again !!! ;)

Oh no. My next purchase (apart from a bottom bracket) will be a new bike. Honest!

if you mount the camera on the fork leg and get something that is static in position in relation to the camera (like the front wheel) or something in part of the shot/camera view, it will make the video look smoother and less jerky as it gives the viewers eye a reference point.

try it - makes for much better footage

Thanks rootes, but I like it on my head. It looks where I look.

ok then get a bit of your head/helmet in the shot to acheive the same effect..

so a bit of your helmet will be the point of reference rather than a wheel

Got the camera. Seems pretty well made, certainly heavier than the Archos camera (not too heavy, just feels well built). Tomorrow will be my first test.

I will do a review when I get a good feel for it.

Here is my first footage using the new camera (still recording on the Archos 404)

View: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=l73QnpIXWRo

It is best to watch this using the high standard setting.

Looking at my previous tunnel videos I think it is a marked improvement, it appears to cope much better with the low light and the picture is much sharper (possibly due to to the better resolution of the camera).

It should be noted that I accidentally recorded at 2000kb/sec instead of the maximum 2500kb/sec so it should improve. Also the Archos does not, and never will get the best out of this camera as it can record to a maximum of 640x480, when the camera is capable of 795 x 596.

I'm very pleased so far, but I'll do a proper review after I have had a bit more time to play...

P.S One video is the north bound tunnel and the other the south bound tunnel, so slightly different, but the lighting is the same.

wow what can i say. For the dosh that you spent on the camera it better be good, and it certainly shows. A more fine detail instead of some bits looking a bit blurry.

Btw did i hear a mobile phone losing reception

I think Mags was dragging a tude train behind him... can't think what else all that clattering would be, unless his back wheel had fallen off.;)

Nice footage - I'm tepted myself by that setup... and may be receiving some dosh in the next few days as partial payoff from my accident in January...

A lot better quality than previous stuff, but what is that clattering?

That'll be my mudguard at the back. The bikes just been in at the LBS (a good one this time) so everything is tight (new BB which makes a big difference)!

There are some downsides (i.e. more cables, the Archos doesn't time stamp with this camera etc.). I will post a full review soon....

Cripes, that's prime mugging territory I would have thought in that tunnel! Or am I just getting paranoid? I'd rather take my chances in traffic if I could (I'm assuming that isn't an option there).

Nice video by the way, good quality. Congrats on your purchase and solid marriage Magnatom!

Traffic is an option, but would add another 15 minutes onto my commute (and time is tight as it is. (Got to get back for the kids).

Anyway, I'm hard I am! :tired:
