I've never played around, far too dangerous.

There must be a lot of very nervous people around. I wonder how many are going to 'fess up to their partners first just in case the threat is carried out?

As to golf, I used to play. I'm not very good though, long straight drive but useless at the rest of the game. I probably need to get specially made clubs to match my height.

Also I used to get in trouble for not taking it seriously. Hip flask in winter, 12 pack in summer. I'd play against my FiL and his mates who were quite good, at least compared to me. I'd hit a drive just off the right side of the fairway into the rough, go and pick the ball up and lob it on to the fairway.
FiL: You can't do that
Me: I'm not spending 15 mins trying to hack it out of the long grass
FiL: You still can't do that it's cheating
Me: It's not like there's any danger of me winning is there?
FiL stomps off in huff.

Why not try a sport you might be good at, Mart? Golf...cycling...they're not doing you any favours. ^_^
Newcastle Football has an Ashley, and cycling has a Madison...and Madison is the famous square, we're talking about playing a round. The Earth is flat (see 'helmet debates') and agreement on golfing forums is met with a '+4' not the usual +1
Peter Aliss is in the news today too....good on him!

Best golf-related thing that ever happened to me was the time I got the captain's room at the Belfry!

I was there at a medical conference and given the key to room 112. It was up a flight of stairs and along a corridor that didn't appear to have such a room. There was a 111 and a 113 but no 112. Where 112 should have been was a door leading to a staircase. I was loaded down with a case, suits and shoes so rather than go all the way back to reception, I chanced the stairs which led to 112. I cautiously opened the doors (double doors) constantly checking the number on the key and the room number were one and the same and entered into a truly sumptuous room. It was the captain's suite and this hadn't been mentioned to me at reception. Our congress had filled the hotel and this was the last room left and lucky old me got it!

There was a standard hotel-sized room INSIDE the suite with a traditional sized bed and TV but the rest of the suite contained a chaise-lounge, a king-size bed, a massive plasma screen TV, a well-stocked fridge with champagne and a basket of fruit. The verandah overlooked the first tee on the course and I was in there for three nights! I kept expecting someone to tell me they'd made a mistake and turf me out but no, I had the full three nights in there and wanted to blab to everyone! All my colleagues and several others had to come and have a look at it but some of the golfers amongst us were very miffed that I was the one to get it and I have a real dislike for the 'sport'.
