There seems to be a well-known issue with some AVI files playing on Bravia TVs and others which don't. Many of the AVIs I have on my laptop work via streaming on the TV or by popping them on a USB stick & plugging that in to it.

I've done a lot of Googling, spent countless hours running various recommended 'converters' etc and still not having much joy.

Does anyone know of a foolproof converter and/or converter settings that will create an AVI file that WILL play on a Sony Bravia TV? It's a KDL-40HX753 Smart 3D model.

Ta!

Is there maybe a different type of file that may be more standard? I've been mucking about with an app called Handbrake trying to convert dvd's. I have stuff for the eu region that my ap region player doesnt like. looks like you can convert from/too loads of different types.

Yes, running the latest firmware.

I think the secret is the frame rate that you use to encode to avi - I read somewhere last night that it needs to be between 15 to 18 to work on the Sony. I re-encoded a file at 15 as a test and it played fine. Success!!

Gave up with my Sony for the same issues - bought a Raspberry Pi and installed Raspbmc - purchase the codecs and it plays pretty much everything... Uses your existing remote via HDMI and also let's you airplay direct from iphone..

Best £30 odd quid you'll ever spend...

Update - I've found that using Handbrake (in conjunction with AnyDVD HD) to rip BluRays works so much better. Rip to mp4 and the files stream to the telly no problem.
