I stopped and ate my pork pie sitting on this bench in the Ashdown Forest yesterday.

The plaque reads: "Halina Nicholson-Smith 6th December 1963 - 13th April 2020 Eternally Beautiful Inside and Out"

I found it rather sad that someone born in the same year as me should have a memorial bench, so I enquired further. Halina was local cyclist and Breeze ride leader who died from breast cancer in 2020.

Always thought this was a rather odd location for a bench - halfway between two small villages, not actually in either of them, just on a country road with no other buildings or obvious spots nearby. I was glad for it when passing though as it gave me a chance to take a breather.

...but comfortable, unlike the solid stainless steel ones at CdG TGV which are slippery and absolutely freezing on one's Derry Air most of the year.
