It's a National Trust property with cafe and lovely walks in the woods. The big house burnt down long ago and what is left are the former outbuildings.

The original house and owner had links to Mary Shelley and the Frankenstein story

And strange goings on with early experiments in electricity to frighten the locals, as I recall.

An old water-mill – the Moulin du Cul Blanc – perched on the banks of l’Oyon river, a few kms east of Augan.

Strange name – “cul” means “ar*e” in French.

Not particularly old – built at the start of the 20th century – and it ceased functioning in 1940.

A charming spot and one that I will revisit: it’s only 200m away from the ‘Ploërmel to Messac’ Voie Verte that I’m currently exploring.
