I'll keep an eye out in Aldi thanks yeah. Had a look the other day; I don't recall seeing brake pads, but I also wasn't looking for anyway as they weren't relevant at the time.
Gears are clicky leavers (they've probably got some superb sounding name, have they?), and I'm pretty sure the tyres are the factory fitted ones - the frame still has the plastic cover over the badge at the front
so I don't suppose it has been used enough to replace the tyres.
