There's a window cleaner I've seen around Edinburgh who has a trailer with his bucket of water on it sploshing around. I think he mainly does shop fronts, so just uses a pole to get to the top.

You beat me to it, Touche! I was going to mention that guy. You mainly see him around Princes Street, but I've seen him cycling along Great Junction Street in Leith too. Not sure if he does work down there too, or if he lives down there.

There's a guy I see every morning on Craigleith Hill Avenue delivering the papers who uses a similar trailer attached to his bike to carry his mountain of newspapers.

There's a window cleaner I've seen around Warsaw who has a trailer with his bucket of water on it sploshing around. I think he mainly does shop fronts, so just uses a scotsman to get to the top.

What does he do for spares? There are probably more Poles in Edinburgh than there are Scots in Warsaw.

I recall that the window cleaner in Skipton was one of the first to buy a mountain bike. A Peugeot Sitting Bull. Heavy as anything, but sturdy enough to carry his stuff. He never rode it anywhere, just pushed it around...

How can he Steer that??

The front and read wheels are linked by the ladder and pipework!!

No, they're not. Look at the pic again, the front of the ladder and pipes aren't atached to anything - the furthest foremost strap is at the seat post.

The front of the long stuff will stick out a bit and there will be enough leeway to turn the wheel enough to steer while riding. The platform on an Xtracycle is possible a little wider than the average rack anyway, giving more room.

Nowdays due to legislation window cleaners are not supposed to climb ladders they have to have a really long handled brush device with a hose attatched which needs a jet washer of some sort to provide the pressure and a water tank. This means they really need to use a van to carry all the gear they need .
The days of a guy with a ladder and a bucket are gone i am afraid

I'll tell my friend that he no longer exists then?

P.S. DF get yourself down to the Waterside here and I will introduce you to my window cleaner.

I had a girlfriend at school who came cycling with a ladder in her stockings.

Did you climb it?

..... and was there a second person stabilising the bottom end?

We also used to have a knife sharpener and his wife who travelled a circuit on their bikes, visiting every 3 months or so. His bike had the grinding wheel turned by peddling. He did a good job on garden shears and scissors.

Many many many years ago (well about ten) I was on a ride somewhere in Hertfordshire and came upon a pedalling knife sharpener outside the pub where we stopped for lunch. He would lift the back wheel off the ground to pedal away, turning the grinding stone mounted in front of the handlebars.

I was actually in Weymouth last weekend and can certainly vouch for the amount of traffic. The council are currently removing some of the roundabouts and installing "intelligent" traffic lights to allegedly smooth the flow of the traffic.
