You mean they're no longer 1 7/16"!
No they used to be 38mm and we played up to 21, then the changed the balls to make them 40mm and have been playing we played up to 11.
Then they introduced plastic balls to replace the celluloid ones and these are a fraction bigger at about 40.1mm.

Won't even start on the regulations on pimples/rubbers etc.
But it's a good sport and have been playing almost as long as I have been cycling - both at a similar standard - mediocre!

Laminates are fascinating. I needed to support the storage cylinder for my solar hot water setup so for fun I made a bespoke beam to fit on the wood framework of the attic floor by glueing some timber in a laminate then shaping it. Completely OTT really but it worked out well, fitted perfectly, was massively stiff and distributes the 180 kilos of weight very effectively.

Apparently it's time to celebrate this surprising material.
