I'm sure I've seen a thread on this before but cant I cant find it , so...

I want a new pump. My CO2 system, whilst helpful, is finally going to be relegated to the "emergency" pocket on the rucksack as its just not as user friendly as I want.

Meanwhile I'd like to find a small (small enough to fit in my back pocket...albeit happy to have it stick out of the pocket) mini pump.

I want it to have a "hose" connection, not static and I would like to be able to use it like a floorpump (perhaps a fold out stirrupy thing) as I'm pretty sure that's the easiest way to get 120 psi out of a minipump.

Any suggestions?

I use the Topeak Micro Rocket, its tiny, light and actually works. Although I do have to weigh it down by a inner tube to stop it flying out of my ERC jersey pocket and being a weight weenie I went for the carbon version. It doesn't have a hose though; the Race Rocket master blaster does and its not too much bigger.

Micro rocket or airstik. Both will reach 100psi with a good squeeze :smile:

The airstik is under £10 a Planet X.

A road morph is great and will easily reach 120 but really is a frame fit

Topeak Morph Mini Pump - has the hose connection, the fold out stirrup bit and can easily get up to 100 psi - the pump handle also folds out. Usually lives in my pannier, but has been in a jersey pocket before. Also comes with a bracket you can attach using the bottle cage lugs or with cable ties (supplied). The bracket has a velcro strap which secures the pump in place too.

Lezyne Road Drive is one of the very few mini pumps with a hose which can realistically reach 120psi at the roadside.
I use the long version, but the short version won't stick too far out of a jersey pocket.
No fold out bits, so it's very light. There's even a carbon version but that's even more spendy.

I can pump up to a 'get-me-home' 70psi with my lezyne, after that, it's the law of diminishing returns.

You need to pump harder, I run my tyres at 100 psi which I can easily achieve with my Lezyne Road Drive pump.

The Lezyne pumps are quite pricey, but worth the money IMHO. Tried a few pumps before settling on one of these, but easily the best mini pump I have owned. In fact I have two, one on the road bike and one on the MTB.

Airstick does it for me. Never got over 100psi fom it, usually rather less, but I'm happy with 90psi as a get-me-home after a puncture.

There is a frame bracket that sits under a bottle cage, but I no longer use it. Despite the velcro, I've twice had it hop loose on potholes on big descents. These days it lives in a back pocket and is happy there.

No flexible, but the connector is good. I bought one because people I trust said it was good.

I now say the same thing.

I have one of those IceToolz mini-pumps for my road bike, haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it looks like it would do a good job. It has an unfolding handle, and is very light. The tourer I use for commuting has a much heavier pump, but still a mini-pump. This latter one is a Topeak Einstein DX (or something like that), and is a very nice bit of engineering. It weighs probably about triple the IceToolz one, but works very well. I can use this one to pump up the 28mm tyres on the tourer to above 100psi in no time.

By the way, I'm glad this thread, despite its title, didn't turn out to be the "crown jewels" thread. Just think how it could have all gone so awry! :thumbsup:

Thanks all.

Now I look at all of those the road drive looks closest, , Perhaps if the pump is sound, I shan't need the stirrup.

I've just started looking at including a gauge as well.

I'd say don't go mini. Get either a frame mounted Zefal HPX or a Lezyne Micro Drive HP Pump. These two are the best pumps I've used. Not the smallest, but in those shitty dark evenings when it's cold and freezing and you want to get going quickly, these are the way to not get sore hands/arms, to pump your tyre quickly, and to not get frustrated.

Quite happy with my three Blackburn Airstiks (one posh carbon one, and two I picked up for about £8 each) - they take a good few pumps, but they get the job done without any fuss. No gauge or hose, but they work very well.
