I cant get in one with the roof up or the doors closed - too tall and too broad adross the shoulders. I do like them though and would love one of the later gen 1.5s.

My friends brand new Defender 130 (£125k with extras).

Purchased as they (older married couple, no kids or dogs and definitely not an 'active lifestyle duo) as they "feel safer" in a large car.

Sod anyone in smaller (or even no) cars then!

I agree. Those cars aren't about power, thats missing the point. They're about fun and driver engagement (the engineers even dismantled and examined an MGB when developing the original) and the 1.5 fits that bill perfectly.

Id have one in a shot if I could fit, but I dont so have the mk1 C70 'vert with its spacious cabin and beefy 5 pot turbo as my summer toy, buts its a car to be wrestled round a country lane, not enjoyed like a sprightly MX5.

They want to be driving what I'm at the wheel of this weekend then: an Extra Long Wheelbase Ford Transit. It's 22 feet long, 8 feet high and 7 feet wide.

Makes a Defender look tiny!
