Any crims reading this thread - rest easy. The likelihood of being caught by this shower is pretty much zero .

That really is a disgusting sight. How can the public be expected to have any respect for a police force that dresses their staff in short trousers, funny hats and allows them to mask their eyes.

Having seen a PCSO riding timidly in the gutter today, I do think training would be a very good idea, a formal standard is needed.

I think that the problem with that will be that you'll have a lot of motorists complaining that the Police are taking up too much roadspace and not yielding to them. As well as this, they won't be paying tax. Also, officers need to be held accountable for any misdemeanors they may make. As such there should be some form of visible registration number on the bicycle or rider.

Most coppers and the 1/2 police people need to be get on their bikes, not so that they catch more criminals, but because they need to lose weight as some are seriously FAT !

No that it matters much, were carrying that much equipment even our fastest guys couldn't catch a cold....One of our guys (who coincidently has won the Peterborough 1/2 marathon) had to shed his belt kit and body armour to make catch one scrote who tried to run off after a hit and run.

Over on yacf there should be a couple of cycling plod, who *have* done lots of specific police/cycle training (different forces to yours). Perhaps worth popping over to that forum and seeing if they are still about - they may be willing to share their experiences with you?

At the moment take something simple like the "primary position", if it were formalised in a Police training manual then it would have a higher status in a complaint about bad driving as you were riding to the "Police standard"

The minority of numpty drivers don't actually want trained and experienced cyclists as it removes all their feeble excuses - and are frightened of such a development for this reason.

'twas nought but a joke Lee, a wry view on the response of motorists when they see a bicycle more than an inch from the kerb.

I'm aware that that sort of view damages cycling - I've encountered it a few times since I started riding and it leads to some scary moments.

Vike I might not class you as being one of the most coppers. I presume that as you cycle regularly that you could leave most of your colleagues for dust.
