The bridge near here at Ufton Nervet replaces the level crossing where 7 people died when a train struck a car that had stopped on the crossing.

There are plenty of level crossings in urban areas in the UK that are pretty Impossible to replace. Those located next to a station can cause significant delay to road traffic as a train calling at the station before passing over the level crossing has to have the barriers down when it is on approach to the station, just it case it fails to stop.
