Most people keep both tyres at the same pressure, or only slightly lower in the front, not nearly low enough to "equalize" contact patch size. I ride 85 rear/60 front, after I actually weighed the front & rear axle weights, however no-one else I know ever does that.

Rain washes the lube off the chain/cassette as the bike is being ridden, hard to ride a bike with newspapers on the back wheel.

Is there an emoticon of a little yellow face slapping his forehead?

I reckon I'm about even, although I suffer very few punctures on my general use bikes (very much less than one a year with a combined annual mileage on those bikes of about 6000 miles). The 'cross bike gets a few: I'm often deliberately running the tyres as soft as I think I can get away with.

Not had one in 2100 miles so far this year (says touching wood).
Come to think of it, never had one last year either. Thats not to say I don't fix them. I have 4 kids who all cycle and so does the wife. They have all had visits from the PF, mostly the rear if memory serves.

I've commuted about 550 miles since getting bike in august, though the mileage is clocking up now as having to commute every day now. I have had in the region of 7/8 punctures - mostly on the front. Part of the issue is probably me being slack in bike maintenance and keeping the tyre pressures up, but cycling through the local council estate doesn't help with all the broken glass that is helpfully lying around, and the 8 miles on the canal path. A bit more bike maintenance vigilence is required on my part generally, like cleaning it occaisionally!
