After several thousands of miles on Gatorskins I'm after some new slightly whizzier tyres. They will mostly be doing long pootly Audax style rides/20 mile faster rides and will need to be able to cope with gritty country lanes. Will be using 25c and if they came in red that would be nice.

Having looked through here, favourites seem to be:

Michelin PR3
Vittoria Rubino Pro
Vredestein Fortezza

Schwalbe Stelvios also get a mention, as do Conti GP 4000.

So, what do you all think?

Vredestein Fortezza IMO have all the virtues and non of the vices in a modern tyre. They have a puncture proof belt and feel fast and supple and at the price you can obtain them on mail order makes them the best VFM!:rofl:

Good grief! Michelin Krylion Carbons are what you want. 23s will be fine for audax as they seem to come out larger than most 23s and are more akin to 25s (if that makes sense). And the 23s come in red. And are on offer at chainreaction for 20 quid instead of 31.50. And there are 25s if you insist. But not in red.

Now, get that poll removed ;)

Well no opinion from me. My Audax has got one Bontrager and one Shwalbe Blizzard on. Never ever have I noticed a damn difference from one tyre to the next only when moving sizes.

Interesting to see that the Krylions have a wider range now than when I bought my 25c size. I use them as my winter tyres. Cant say I like them that much and don't feel them overly grippy especially in the wet. Bit heavy and dead feeling. P*ncture and cut-wise they're not much better than my PR3's which are so much nicer to ride and grip like there's no tomorrow (though they won't do as many miles I'm certain).
Interesting how people find the same product. Maybe the 23's are different.

They are much improved since the 1980s ;)

Think I got them about 2 years ago-ish after reading a lot about them on acf.
They certainly have thair fans, don't know why I'm not do cock-ahoop about them.

Blimey, in the '80s I was riding Nutrack Nomads in 27x1 & 1/4... like riding with treacle on your tyres, but good P*ncture resistance for those times.
