Poly Styrene RIP

Today the sad news came through that Poly Styrene had lost her battle with cancer.

Her short career as lead singer with X-ray Spex produced some great music, and was arguably responsible for the subsequent break through of many women into punk and many subsequent shades of indy music.

I saw X-ray Spex play a tiny venue in Harrogate at the start of their career. She had a fantastic amount of energy and it still sticks in my mind as one of the best gigs I ever went to.

I knew her quite well. I worked on her Conscious Consumer album. Lovely person, though mad as a box of frogs.
Sad, sad news.

What a tragically young age. I loved her unique voice and sense of humour. It's only a few weeks since I digitised all my vinyl in to MP3 format and the X-ray spex albums were amongst the most enjoyable.

RIP Polly. You'll be missed.
