I miss my Pompino- sold it last year after surgeon suggested I may not be able to ride again. I can ride, but not too keen on going fixed again, but was thinking an alfine geared Pompino could be the way ahead. Looks good. I want one.

How about some close ups for the cable routing?

I'll see if I can get some tomorrow. The bar end shifter cable does seem to look untidier in the photo than in reality - being designed for singlespeed there aren't any braze-ons for the gear cable.
On-One have had a picture of a pompino frame they are supposedly going to produce for the alfine hub, with disc mounts. Would hope it comes with better cable routing than mine. Colour on test bike is horrible though.

I've just been looking for those pics on the On-One site but can't seem to find them now.

You'd hope so, but it is an On-One!

Very nice, I was thinking of a Pompino frame but the new ones are only 120mm at the rear dropouts and they've only got mediums left in your model. Have tentatively decided to buy a complete Genesis Day One Cross instead.

I have the Midge bars on my Surly and they're good just a little short on the drops bit. I'm also going to try out the Salsa Woodchippers, similar but longer tops, steeper drop angle(ie the aero levers wouldn't be as flat as on the Midge) and much longer flat section of the drops.

My main problem at the moment is that I can't get the Sturmey bar end shifter yet. I have a homemade bar mount but may try a homemade version of the Hubub adaptor, to bar end mount the twist shifter, until the proper shifters become available.

The Pomp builds up very nicely with the dirt drops:biggrin:

Looks niiiice. How comfortable are those bars? And what brakes have you got on?

Brakes are frogslegs. Pleasantly surprised how good they are, obviously not as good as the hydraulic discs on the other bike, but not that far behind in stopping power. At least in the dry.

I like the bars but I've only done a couple of miles on it so far. Far too wet to take it out and get my new toy dirty at the moment . I went for the midge bars because of the shallow drops, I've had some shoulder pain with drops before due to an old injury. Lbs that built it up fitted a rust resistant chain - he said he's changed lots of chains over the past couple of months, some with solid kinks in them due to the amount of salt dumped on the roads.

I'm now hoping for no fairy visits, the hub is a complete pain to take off

What happened?

I'd previously had 2 ACL repairs and 2 arthroscopies to my right knee, as well as all the associated knee collapses etc etc.

Last year there was an incident involving a rope that somehow wrapped around my knee, and 40+ kg of sprinting Husky/gsd cross connected to the other end !

That's a sweeet looking bike Piemaster. Do you know the weight of it?

Very interested in the new On One Pompetamine bike that Macb mentioned, which is coming out in a few months. I think Genesis are going to release a similar hub geared bike later this year too, probably with the new alfine 11 speed hub.
