Hi
I'm very disappointed with my recent purchase of a Marathon Plus rear tyre - despite doing around 2500 miles on it this summer I found that a 1.5 inch nail still managed to get through the puncture proof band and then through both sides of the inner tube..... That's the first time I have had to stop for repairs all summer.......

Can anyone recommend a better tyre ?????

A nail positioned so that it'll puncture will puncture all tyres but those solids types. Even then I susepect you'd get annoyed by the tap tap tap of the nail hitting the brake/frame each rotation due to it being embedded.

M+ are very good at preventing punctures and I suspect that your nail was just a piece of bad luck.

Objects like that will penetrate any tyre - even the venerable M+.

There's no better pneumatic tyre if you want puncture pretection.

A fair assumption

P*nct*red by a mere nail? My M+ took a hit from an industrial staple, and only alerted me to the fact by the other end of the metal hitting my seatstay as the wheel turned (I was riding round Elephant & Castle/Walworth Rd RABs at the time - I wouldn't have appreciated an unscheduled deflation followed by an inelegant unscheduled dismount).

Maybe cyclists don't do irony

I was considering getting more robust tyres than my Secteur came with. What are the downsides to getting the Marathon plus type? And how do they compare to ... is it Gators?
