1.5" nail? Should have gone to Specsavers - didn't you spot it?

Don't forget it's getting darker earlier and lighter later now, so the OP might have been riding in the dark.

PS should have bought Conti GP 4 Seasons though.....not having this weight in a tyre you know.................... oh no........................... 220g for the Ultimate Commuting tyre................... only 20g heavier than a race tyre.............

Only works though if you have a bike that takes 700c x 23 c............ahem................ if your bike doesn't.................then sell it..........

Conti GP 4 Seasons aren't very durable though
The three pairs I've used of them were great until they'd done 2500km, then they were shagged and punctured very frequently
Also your comment about 23c is incomprehensible, GP 4 Seasons are available for up to 28c

I've had similar 'poor' results from my M+. 0 flats in 2500+ miles.
Have used the 4 seasons and results were mixed, cut up very easily, but they are very light for a commuter tyre, only got 1200 miles before they started flatting so switched to Durano+.

Maybe cyclists don't do irony

I was considering getting more robust tyres than my Secteur came with. What are the downsides to getting the Marathon plus type? And how do they compare to ... is it Gators?

Martin
Downsides - heavy, a nightmare to get on/off. More rolling resistance than the gators I would think.

Once they are on though they are very durable and almost bombproof.

Depends what you are using the bike for, I use M+ on my commute bike but would hate to use them on longer road rides.

Thanks - helpful response

I'm basically trying to up my mileage to build endurance - doing LEJOG in May. Any suggestions for tyres? And should I look at 23c rather than 25?

Never ridden that sort of distance, but I've got these on my roadbike and I'm very impressed with them. Seem like a good compromise between puncture resistance and speed.

I'm asking for trouble here, but I'm onto my second pair and no punctures. Although, I suppose most of my mileage has been done on quietish country roads without significant amounts of debris.

25s would give you a wee bit more comfort, possibly sacrificing a little bit of speed over the 23s but I'm not sure the differences would be great.

Hopefully someone who has done LEJOG might be able to give you more definitive advice.

I think fossyant meant that you can't get GP4seasons onto a 26" wheel, which many people commute with. (Like me)

I'm happy with my Specialised AllSeasons Pro 26x1.00 that 1/8 of inch makes a lot of difference.
