This week i've started to eat Porridge (never thought the day would come) and i now love the stuff. In-fact, i can't believe i'd never eaten it before. The nutritional benefits make it a non-brainer!

Now i know, lots of people on these boards will eat porridge regularly, so what are your favorite recipes? i.e water or milk? sweet or savory? Topping of choice?

I've been making mine with a mixture of water and milk (3/4 milk) and mixing in a spoonful of peanut butter, a little honey and a chopped up banana.

I make mine with half and half water and vanilla flavour soya milk and use agave nectar on top. ( A tip I got on here on another thread!)

Just porridge, skimmed milk and the tiniest bit of sugar ( about quarter of a tea spoon) lovely  I eat porridge every morning, since I started cycling and love it

Whole rolled oats - takes a bit longer to cook, but tastes better and doesn't have the texture of wallpaper paste!
Half milk half water, plus chopped up banana and handfull of raisins.
(Plus a bit of brown sugar on top if I'm feeling naughty!)

(it's disgusting when hot)

I use cold milk too but only because I can't be bothered to clean out a porridge pan.

My grandmother used to have a porridge drawer where she poured a batch of porridge and allowed it to cool and solidify before cutting chunks off to eat an sometimes fry for a fry up. It's a scottish practise that has not been handed down to me and one that I have no desire to perpetuate.

There was a student years ago that did that and, to save money, that's all he ate - cold porridge from his 'porridge drawer'.

First case of scurvy in the country for decades!!

Porridge oats, a little bit of sweetwener, water. Bung in microwave. Top with sliced fruit of choice (mine is peach), short blast in microwave again. Large bowl of delicious, healthy, filling, energising goodness in less than 2 minutes. My breakfast of choice along with a mug (or three) of tea

Does soaking them mean they don't need to be cooked? I whack mine in a saucepan and cook them for a few minutes. Do you find it's nicer your way?

Oh and i never even knew people ate porridge cold, will have to try it, will wait till the summer though.

I do a big pan of it at the weekend that gets divvied up for the week and kept in the fridge and reheated at brew time at work.

Pinhead oats with dried fruit in if I've got some and Quinoa occasionally. I just use water, a bit of brown sugar and a pinch of salt.

No, it just allows the meal to absorb the milk and water which improves the texture.
Instead of using a saucepan, which has to be cleaned, use a glass bowl. Give it a stir in the morning, heat it for 1.5 minutes in the microwave, stir and repeat, then eat it straight out of the bowl.
Then rinse out the bowl.xx(

Just a spoonful of dark brown muscavado sugar for me, and maybe an extra splash of cold milk. But if I have any in, I'll sometimes add a dollop of plain yoghurt.
