I'm not normally one to post cyclist down threads, but this one is quite sad.

The lad was only 19. Assuming that it was a hit and run (no real details at the moment) I don't really see how anyone can drive away from a scene like that. It's just inhuman.

Very sad. We've had a spate of hit and runs here too in recent years. The police say there are lots of uninsured moped riders too added into this equasion.

It just seems that in the early hours there are no witnesses so they think they can just f*** off.

0300hrs, maybe a driver who had one to many?

Quite possible. Still no word on what happened... I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be one of those stories which just fades away.

Also quite possible, but the road has been cordoned off all day apparently. The Police don't often do that when its as simple as that.

Concerned, I started clicking on the RH links on the Portsmouth page - but they are all linking back to the same sad incident

Horrible. Condolences to his friends and family. If anyone here knows them, please pass on my deepest, sincere sympathy.

I grew up there (my sister works at the A & E unit he was taken to).

Doesn't make it any more or less tragic; it does make it more personal.

The streets where he was knocked off can be real 'rat runs' especially for taxis and people looking for a shortcut, although there's loads of speed bumps down there. But at that time of night, traffic unlikely to be that busy unless it happened a lot earlier in the evening.

A really strange place to be knocked off and how on earth could someone just drive off??

RIP  and condolences to that young lad's poor family.

I used to live not far from where this happened, and one of my favourite games on the bike was to sprint between the speed humps and use each one as a booter, 1/2 mile of almost effortless jumps ;), quite easy to imagine him doing the same on his way home and just getting it all wrong .

Latest news report (South Today, just now) says post mortem suggests he fell off at speed, rather than was knocked off.
