How come this footage is being made public given it is clearly a CCTV camera?

Have any rules been broken in publishing it?

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be publishing it if they weren't allowed to...I'm sure they're not that stupid.

If you want you can request footage from CCTV cameras anyway...though I think you've got to actually be in shot.

With the risk of contradicting myself or starting another hullabaloo, I think his position is fine. Traffic in front looks like it's stationary, he's not holding anyone up behind him and he is probably deciding whether to filter up the middle lane or hug the kerb (it looks like the van in front has left space to do this). Being in the middle leaves all his options open as long as he is aware of traffic around him.

Personally I wouldn't filter up the middle lane as the truck is right up against the edge of the lane and I'd probably have to undertake and swerve in front of the black car in the middle lane. I also wouldn't filter down the nearside unless I knew the traffic light phasing -I'd stay behind the truck rather than risk being squished as the traffic turns to the left. I have almost a phobia of undertaking large vehicles, especially on busy bends.

Looks fine to me. So what's your angle Mikey?
I'm gonna guess that, as the shot was timed only 6 minutes before the post, that either
1) Mikey is either sitting in an office discussing "fecking cyclists" with a colleague or
2) Mikey is that cyclist and the car behind is about to administer the "don't cycle in the middle of the road when you don't pay road tax" rant.

My guess is that this is a result of a positioning discussion that BM and Bryce had yesterday about primary and secondary .. I suspect BM is canvassing opinion and / or giving an example so he and Bryce can better understand each other.

By the way, I'll add another "position looks good to me" vote.

Spot on chap! I was hoping Bryce would comment - in discussions like these it's all too easy to become polarised, and one way out is to look at a real situation and then compare notes. It looks to me rather like Bryce is a very competent cyclist, and may well not be very different in his strategies from most of us.

I've certainly noticed a few people get very against the whole primary/cyclecraft debate in the last few years, but on the whole that's usually down to interpretation or simple polarisation of debate.

It's nearly always because they have not read the book and don't actually understand what they are dismissing, disagreeing with etc...

As I've said, I'd gladly lend Bryce a copy.

If he was tucked in to the left then some muppet would try to overtake despite the fact that the lane is not wide enough for bike and car. Any overtaker now has to change lane. good position.

True. I ought to read 'Cyclecraft' and compare it with my style.

I have Ed Burke's book, which is pretty ancient now and has some really laughable photos of young American girls with tight shorts and Farah hair styles ( god rest her soul ).

I've read "Hi-Tech Cycling" by Burke, but it sounds like you have something earlier?
