If a driver does something uneededly courteous then they'll certainly get a thank you wave.
I don't think doing what should be expected of anyone is deserving of special thanks, though. As cyclists we shouldn't be having to doff our caps to the superior mister motorist cor thanks guv for not killing me today y'honour 'ow gracious of yer.
No, but it might balance things out. I've been reported twice in a company vehicle on the same stretch of road
First was for driving a 7.5T truck down a road where vehicles with a MGW OVER 7.5T are prohibited, a campaigner against lorries photographed me (as is his right) and phoned to say the photo would be sent to the police. I hear from a local forum that Woodseats Police are quite patient with Mr Meldrew's regular reports.
Second was for turning into the lane to enter that road (route is left at RAB then right after 100 yards, approaching RAB, left lane is left turn [into nearside], centre lane is straight ahead or left turn [into offside lane to turn right onto said road]
So car comes up my inside though I am signalling, nearly drives into the side of me as I turn left then follows beeping and flashing - then rings up to complain about me using the correct lane.
It would be tiresome praising every piece of correct driving but what is "passable" and what is "top notch" are two different things, and the latter ought to be encouraged. ANd might balance out complaints from idiots getting their knickers in a twist through not comprehending road signs and markings and becoming all holier than thou about it....
