Sent the following e mail this morning and had a good result
Dear XXXX
I regret that I need to write to you regarding the dangerous / reckless driving of the above mentioned vehicle last night at 17:05 hrs on Gipping road between Jack Brands and the A14 bridge. Myself and a colleague were cycling home when the above mentioned vehicle violently swerved into us as they attempted to overtake irrespective of the traffic bollard in the middle of the road and missed knocking me off my bike by less than 30 cms. It is obvious that they had blatant disregard to our safety as they could have not missed the high viz clothing that we were wearing nor the array of lights that we had on display. Nor could the bollard been a suprise to them as I am sure they pass it every day.
Could I draw their attention to items 162 - 169 of the highway code
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070314
They must have been in a real rush to get to the back of the traffic queuing to turn right into Norwich Road which is where I encountered the second piece of irresponsible driving. When legally filtering to the front of the queue the vehicle then deliberately pulled across me to prevent my further progress. It is more than obvious that the driver of this vehicle has a thing against cyclists and blatent disregard to my safety.
As yet I have not yet reported this matter to the police as I thought I would give you an opportunity of addressing this matter first as I am sure this is not accepted driving practice of vehicles painted in your companies livery.
As a side note I was passed on the way in this morning in almost the same place by your van (cannot recall reg no but it was transit sort of size) and the drivers road manner was exemplary giving me plenty of room and only overtaking me when safe to do so.
I await your comments.
I know the company very well as they are 2 units away from me on the same industrial estate and the company I work for is one of their customers.
The MD, who I addressed the e mail to, phoned within 30 minutes of receiving it apologising very profusely for his employees behaviour and telling me he had given the gentleman concerned a severe dressing down and that he would get the offending person to phone me up to apologise directly. Sure enough 5 mins later very grovelling phone call received.
I would say that I am quite satisfied with the outcome
