Possible damaged shifter

I was riding today when I heard a click, which sounds the same as when I clip in to my pedals. I lifted my foot and found I was in fact not clipped in so I pulled over onto the pavement to see if I could spot anything.

I did not see anything, and when I set off I found the gear shifter/brake lever assembly was where the click came off. The shifter should be firm on the handbars like the other one, except the faulty one can be wiggled.

I had a look at work, but could not see how the gear shifter is attached to the handbars due to the tape. Any ideas if I have damaged the shifter?

Can it be moved from side to side? The bolt might just need doing up. It can be found by pulling back the hood cover.
