Currently driving a Honda CRV 2.2 diesel, 56 plate, great car no massive issues with it and tows our caravan great but we are looking for another newer car of similar capabilities i.e room for 2 adults and 3 children albeit two of the boys are adult sized, so room in the back ideal. Looked at the new CRV and the X trail and collapsed onsite of the price!! Any other recommendations, maybe and Estate ?? Audi A4 comes in at the cheaper end of the budget ie a good bit under 20 grand!!

New CRV is nice on tarmac, but the AWD system is very poor compared to the excellent Gen II model you're leaving behind, if indeed you choose one with AWD at all.
The new X trail looks competent enough, but only you know how well you'll get on with a fully loaded car and a piddly, peaky diseasel motor.
And the Audi is German, good enough reason to avoid it entirely.
Even the Kia Sportage is no longer a cheap option, and costs broadly the same is the opposition.
I'd keep it simple. If its an estate you need then the Mundano is highly competent, as is the Volvo V70 if you want some thing that doesnt depreciate quite so readily.
Subaru Foerster is well worth a look is you want an AWD or 4x4 drive train.

The new Honda is now twin turbo and pumps out 160 horses, which has poke but cannae help feel its a step back, anyway still pricey so avoiding I think. Might wait till next year in the hope prices drop. Other option is keep the Honda for towing duties and get something large enough for the 5 of us without being the anthill mob

I would guess you need to work back from the caravan and get something with enough weight to tow it and enough engine to make decent progress. I really see no need for any sort of 4x4 for towing: much better with a lower and more stable traditional car.
My guess is that they are selling so many ugly fat cars (sorry!) that they can keep the prices up. Lots of cars that look nicer and drive better out there. Not up on prices for new cars enough to suggest but the non-prestige brands must offer some options in the price range. For example mondeos are just so good these days.

The LED front indicators are something that should be seen on a high end Audi. I'd buy one just for that. ^mondeo.

I'd keep the thing. If you do wamt a change then maybe consider a Nissan Qashqai.
Ours is 6, 70+k miles, we've had it from new & its as good now as then, solid, rugged, reliable, comfy, good size & routinely fits 3 adults / big teens in the back. 2 litre diesel and it is plenty nippy round town and very leggy fully loaded going on camping hols etc.
