Yup. "I have a perfectly good bike that I like a lot & have no problem with and it does everything I want it to, but I want to get rid of it & get a new one." Equally baffling.Replace 'car' with 'bike'. Now are you still baffled?
The remit is a new car, that is big enough to tow a caravan and to come in at under £20k.
Personally I would not buy a new Mondeo, in fact I would not buy a new car or a ford! But the Mondeo stands out as a good car that is not an overpriced "prestige" brand and (in my view) is actually a very good looking car that would be quite at home if produced by Alfa. It is miles better than these ugly Tonka toy boxes that seem very popular but really are horrid.
So what can you buy new that will do the job and NOT depreciate?
What I also liked about the Honda, was the timing chain, change the oil regular and you should get no issues. Timing belts scare the life out of me as having one go before cost plenty to put right and that was me doing the work.
Well that backfired... I thought you'd want a new bike!Yup. "I have a perfectly good bike that I like a lot & have no problem with and it does everything I want it to, but I want to get rid of it & get a new one." Equally baffling.

Alfas. No ugly sisters there. It is a bit of a tricky one and of course a very personal view. I don't think any one brand makes all attractive cars and another brand not; they all seem to have a few Cinderellas and a few ugly sisters in their ranges!
I've had a couple of SUV hire cars. Really do not like them at all. Smaller interiors than same sized MPVs - a Quashquai felt more cramped than our Skoda Roomster does. High load lip at rear to lift bags over. They seem to sacrifice space for style. Says he, throwing stones from a Roomster, all space and no style, But I always drive it with a paper bag on my head, in case someone I know sees me.Personally I really hate the whole range of 4x4 and SUV type of car. To me they all look very ugly, they seem to have lots of very pointless and unused features on them and really seem unsuited for the job they are sold for. As a cyclist I don't like them as they tend to hide me from other traffic and prevent me seeing other traffic. They somehow seem to be sold as "tough" city cars but seem the most unsuitable thing to drive or park in a city.
Basically the owners are entering into a sort of car arms race and want something they think is bigger, heavier and safer than you, so you come off worse if they drive into you. Or they have a small cock.
Perhaps 5% are bought for a genuine use like a farmer or for better ground clearance but the rest are not. Mercedes make a few chunky great lumps that are as bad as the rest. My heart sank when it was announced that Jaguar was going to make a SUV.
