Beware the pothold avoiders. I was cycling up the outside of an almost stationary line of cars this morning when a woman in a massive red Volvo jutted out sharply to the right with not warning. I slammed on the brakes assuming she was going to do a U turn. Just as I was about to pass her she swung out again, worried she had changed her mind I stoppped again. I finally pulled right out wide around her and she swung out again. It was then ireaslied she was swingoing out to avoid potholes ( not much chance of that at that particular road).
I tried to catch her eye to grimmace disgust but she just couldn't ( or didn't want to look me in the eye) when I saw the hands free phone headset I just thought what's the point. As I looked back the guy in the car behind was shrugging in sympathy.

Difficult one, this, not knowing all the details (how far she was weaving, how much gap you were leaving to the queue of cars etc) but, from what you've said, it sounds a tad one-sided, possibly blinkered.

Imagine the roles were reversed. What if she had been on a bike and you, in a car, were complaining that she was weaving to avoid potholes.

You are over-taking, it is your responsibility to leave room just as it is for the motorists to leave room when overtaking "us".

Agreed with the above, i both ride and drive as i'm sure many people do on here.

It's the responsibility of the overtaker to make sure you're doing it at a safe time. Yeh, she probably didn't see you, which is a bit of a joke tbh, but at the end of the day, i'm not going to drive my car through potholes and risk damage to my car just so you can pass me on your bike and i wouldn't expect any driver to do so if i was on a bike.

Had a few instances myself lately while cycling and having to move at last minute to avoid potholes usually in the dark so its hard to spot them. Fortunately drivers were giving me plenty of room.

For years i have done the avoiding pothole and grid trick in the car especially when i used to have lowered suspension ( my silly years ! ) Working in a garage i know what damage they can cause even to the biggest of cars. That does not say that motorists should be allowed not to make sure the area around is free of cyclists, motorcycles or any other road user.Being a cyclists makes us better motorists and to look out for vehicles smaller than a car ( Us lot ! ) Non cyclists as we all know do not have that mind set and will not be looking for us.
