I got my first puncture on the Triban because of an enormous pothole. I was following a 50 bus into town and it basically popped out from under the bus. There are also quite a few roads where it seems like there aren't potholes, just a sub-par surface - I see trenches running along the entire width of the road pretty often. They're almost always thin, but not thin enough to not be worth slowing right down for, and there's also often a tiny rise in the road surface on either side of them. Almost as if the tarmac is composed of stickers, and they're peeling at the edges.

I finally got suckered by a flooded pothole the other day. Luckily I am not clipped in and managed to get off staying upright but near knee deep in water.

I must admit I got my pleasure in the 100% stranded motorist who had earlier startled me and forced me onto a verge at the eariler lesser flood. (100 yards prior). Why the idiot never waited for me to test the depth I'll never know.

Can't be much fun in having water in your exhaust pipe.

I reported a stretch of road last year to http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/ it was a 100+metre section which had been filled after gas/elec (or something) work. Within a couple of years though, it had deteriorated so much that it was impossible to ride on it on a road bike. This forced me towards the centre line, which was o.k until there was a car parked on the opposite side, and an oncoming car.

I mentioned this on the site, gave all the details, and added that I had damaged a wheel (to add a bit of zing-not true) and also pointed out that it was dangerous to cyclists. I'm not sure if my complaint was what triggered the repair, but within 3 months (!) it had been dug up and resurfaced. If councils aren't aware, there will bo no repair, so complain about it.
