she's gorn and done it now! The pouffe will be delivered this afternoon. She's been practising, sitting on a sofa with her legs out in front of her. And apparently it's not a pouffe it's an 'ottoman'.

I always thought pouffes were for very old people, but that's probably because my gran had one. I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise. Do you have a pouffe? And, if so, did you inherit it, or did you actually go out and buy the thing?

Haven't got any need for one, We have 2 3 seat sofas, one for me one for the missus.

I find any kind of footstool really uncomfortable, same with those sofas where the front comes up and throws your legs in the air

We had one when I was a kid, but it got called the "poof-ay". We also had an ottoman, but that was oblong and lived on the landing outside the bathroom, and was used for keeping sheets in.

I have a poofee and bought it when I bought my sofas back in 2001. It contains my old laptop, some post that should have been filed years ago, cables for things I probably no longer own and other odds and sods. The cat lies on it so I put my feet up on the coffee table instead.

Ottomans look similar, but are storage boxes?

None if your pinko commie pouffe a for me. An upturned milk crate with a cushion atop is good enough for real men.

Ah, thankyou Drago - it is an Ottoman. Plenty of space for last week's copy of The Lady and a pair of slippers.

I was sitting on the sofa just the other day and thinking -what I need is a pouffe.

Our flat is so small though, I'd need a folding pouffe.

And it was always poof-ay in my household too. We weren't classy enough to actually have one, but occasionally my parents had to use the word to describe other people's furnishings.

My mum had two, they were useful for storing things in. They never got used for the original purpose, putting your feet on, more decorative. ^_^

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I've spent about 12 hours a day for the past 2.5 months with my legs up on one! My clotted leg swells up, goes purple and throbs if I leave it down for too long.

As for where it came from ... It was my mother's. She needed to rest her aching old legs when sat watching yet another antiques property cookery quiz show!

I didn't want to just sling it out after she died, but I never dreamed that I would actually be needing it myself less than 2 years later ...
