I used to love power cuts in the late 70's... dad getting the candle tin out and mum looking out the window to see if it's the whole street or just us (in retrospect... it was more than the whole street!). On the rare occasion I get one I get all excited, like being a kid again. sitting in candle light with only a battery operated radio for entertainment. The last one lasted about 45 mins, and I honestly thought "is that it? boring!" when the power came back.

+1. Doing my homework by candlelight was fittingly Dickensian I always thought. There were even times when it got handed in with candlewax on the page! At least they published a schedule of the powercuts so you knew when your power would be going off - though it wasn't an acceptable excuse for not getting homework done. No fun not having any tv after a day at school, but I did rediscover the delights of radio while the Winter of Discontent strikes lasted.

as a kid i could never work out why the telly strikes were on different days to the power cut strikes. Then i realised when i got to secondary school.

still it was only 3 channels back then and Beeby 2 hadn't long been in colour !!

After voting every few years and meaning ONCE

It was ironic that last night at around 11pm there was a huge power cut, after everyone was in bed, so the noise from the amount of house alarms was something to be impressed by

Foz, was you affected ?
