Hi all

As most know i am training with a coach but he's told me that its been dropping out alot than when i freewheel so i updated its firware to the latest version and he saying its still doing it which i can see on strava it is.

Also i have factory reset my gamrin edge 810 to see if that was a problem and it isn't so my coach tried to connect his polar m50 and garmin edge 500 but when calibrating it did nothing aswell but connects to my garmin 810 within minutes and calibrates like normal.

I am thinking of dropping it back to the shop i bought it from under the warranty but was wondering what happens if they send it off and it gets sent back saying there's nothing wrong with it?

Eh ? Your power meter will drop out when you free wheel as you are not putting any power through it

As above - it's pretty normal for a PM to read zero when you're freewheeling - or did you mean something else? Some indication of which PM would also be useful.

I am using rotor inpower and i know it's normal for it to say zero when freewheeling but when pedaling at 90 rpm seems something is wrong

Ehh yeah, freewheeling = no cadence = no power = drop out

If you know its not recording power when you are definitely applying power then send it back.If its an intermittent fault they will probably just exchange it.

Is he politely saying you are letting it drop out by freewheeling and you need to use that to your advantage and pedal harder. Ask him?

I have asked and he said it wasn't that but showed me the race i did and all it was doing was one spike every 30secs so he's telling me its defenitly broke

Have you ruled out interference with the signal?

I use a Stages and Garmin 810 and it will often drop out when it is on my turbo if the Mrs or my son is using their laptop on the wifi - don't have the same problem outdoors as no laptops about.

I have also read (on the interweb so must be true) of power meters and garmins dropping out if they are on an out front bike mount - might be worth playing with?
