Look what she's done to her walls:

Now she wants to redecorate. Of course new coats of paint are defenceless against the (artists' ink, apparently) - it just leaks through. Anyone been here before and can recommend some kind of primer that will actually do the job? Thanks.

Paint it with white gloss first, then your normal colour in emulsion. I had to do that when my roof leaked last year and stained my bathroom ceiling. Works a treat

That`s me put in my place, sorry I tried to help......................
Blimey, get over it! You can do what you like, as can the OP - I merely offered my opinion.

When I had a my fire they used a paint that went straight on over the smoke damage (after a quick wash down). It never leeched through and only took one coat. I was amazed. This is absolutely no use as an answer though as I do not know what it was called. Sorry.

Thanks for all suggestions...based on which, I think I'm going to have a crack with this (not least 'cos they're close to us).

Stain block .... comes in a spray tin... what the pros use I

Spays a thin layer (not expensive).. Gloss will give it a raised layer.. unless you do the full wall

But Cheap/most emulsions does nt bond on gloss

Get her some paints and a canvas !
