Have a great tour and look forward to your trip report. By the way where are you going to?

Just serviced my own bike, wheel bearings front and rear, chain, cassette, jockeys wheels and brake overhaul as I don't trust anyone. I now have my mountain bike in as many pieces awaiting parts delivery and my new workshop stand.

21 days for me. Coventry to faro in Portugal. rebuilt my bike, Dawes galaxy. new seat, brook's b67, cables, big chain ring, chain, rear sprocket pedals, wheels, tyres and tubes. handlebar grips, new front rack
For the last 3 weeks been going out every day fully loaded, on last Friday i was out on a 30 mile ride with the full loaded on when 20 miles in one of the bolts to my front rack came lose and sent my rack and pannier into my new front wheel. It could have been a lot worse. i only buckled very slightly (it took me about 10 mins to fix)and put a small rip in the bottom of my classic roller. Its my own fault for not checking the bolts in the last two years and 5000 miles, I did look at the rack and think about changing. On the plus side, better it happen when i am here than when on tour.

Somebody else who prefers to do it themselves and at least if you have a problem out on the road you can fix it yourself.

Have a great tour to Portugal, how long do you expect it to take?

I'm taking the bike express to narbonne 2 weeks of cycle touring and camping then pick up from Orange. I am starting to do my own bike maintenance went on a days course and learnt a lot but still I wanted a professional take a look until my experience grows.

Andy I invested in a tubus front rack really strong, very happy with it. Have a great tour also.

Better to be safe than sorry by having a pro look over your bike until you become more confident of your abilities as we all have to learn sometime.

Have a great tour.

My trip (to Scotland - where else?) is a bit more than a month away - can't wait. This year I decided to do a proper maintenance on my bike (I do it myself), turned out one of the bearing cones in the front hub is shot - so now I'm waiting for a replacement, good thing my LBS was able to order it (the hubs are an older model which Shimano no longer supports properly). And ordered new set of tyres today.

I did this last September, day before I was due to go to Barcelona, I'd run out of time to look at it so dropped it in at my LBS. TBH there was nothing wrong wth it but I was looking forward to peace of mind and a smoooooth ride. Picked it up, the gears were out of synch, the brakes dragging and the front wheel on back to front. On removing it I found both axle springs on the same side, that made me check the rear, same result! Good luck.
