I asked my butler to ask my cook to do an inventory check of the larder with a view to donating any Premier Food products to the local food bank.

I'm not sure that they'd be grateful for the half drum of Saxo salt that the cook unearthed so it's being retained for slug clearance purposes.

While I'm not going to defend Premier Foods for one moment we should not castigate them alone.

My experience in supplying major multiple retailers is similar practices, though not necessarily as direct payments, are commonplace and can take many forms. Ultimately, however dressed up, these support the retailer at a cost to the supplier.

To date I have yet to encounter such practices with independent retailers seing similar or even identical products in to the same market.

Angel Delight? How posh!

It's only posh if you have tinned fruit cocktail and sprinkles on it.

Oh yum! My mum makes a 70's style trifle on Christmas Day that incorporates tinned fruit, tinned custard, Swiss roll and sprinkles.
Kids love it!

I'm coming round to your mum's for Christmas, tell her to make an extra big one.
