I went to see the Spurs on saturday and saw some great football but unfortunately no goals. Joe Hart was unbelievable.

However the noise was incredible. All around the supporters were singing and chanting and shouting. OK you might think but it was mostly abuse directed at the Man City supporters. There seemed to be a conditioned response to most of things that happened.E.g. Gareth Bale takes a throw in invokes chants of Baale, Baale, Baale. an appearance of a Man city player at the touchline greeted with a torrent of abuse.

Adebayor ex Arsenal comes on as sub. He is ex Arsenal and they have a song just for him ; Adebayor, Adebayor, your father cleans elephants and your mother's a whore. Nice.

In fact most of the time they weren't even following the match so engrossed were they with chanting abuse. Some of it quite witty like Channel 5, Thursday night as of course Man city are in the 2nd tier European competition televised on Thursday nights and not the champions league that Spurs might be playing in.

I had to laugh though when they started up with "Stand up if you hate Arsenal". They lasted a little while until they realised we were all standing up anyway. OK lets chant "Sit down if you hate Arsenal". Meanwhile the other end and Spurs were on the attack. I looked around and they were all chanting at the Man City supporters "F off City", F off City".

Yeah he probably will. Opposing supporters don't need an excuse to have a go, but when they have some ammunition it can get bad.

Gareth Barry was booed a lot, I guess because of the world cup. bloody daft.

One good thing was a half time they introduced survivors and representatives of the Spurs double team as it's 50 years since they won the double 1960/61. I must have been one of the few supporters there on saturday who had seen them play that season being 11 years old at the time. There was Dave Mackay, Terry Dyson, Les Allen, Maurice Norman, Terry Medwin, Cliff Jones plus Tony Marchi, Mel Hopkins who played a few times. Jean Nicholson was there representing her father Billy Nicholson. I used to go to school with her in the same year.

I have to admit it brought a tear to my eye.

I think Gareth Barry comes in for particular abuse because he was so blatant in chasing the money. I bit like Ashley "I nearly crashed my car when they offered only £55k a week" Cole. These kind of players will always receive abuse I think for so long as the average man in the street can still afford to get into a game. When they perform badly at a World Cup, well that's just rubbing it in.
