We (well Mr Summerdays), spent a long period of time up in the attic laying additional joints on top of the existing ones and then putting insulation in. We used a combination of products - not rockwool - he hates the stuff, mostly the recycled plastic. You need to be careful if you have any lights in the ceiling below not to put the insulation too close to that (even though we have LED rather than the normal ones).
